A Screenshot Of Digital India(Part-2)

This new bend by Tania in the curve of our discussion added new dimensions. We were now tickling our brains to figure out how can we get different sections of our country under its scope. Though, the government does has plans like connecting the Gram Panchayats through a digital highway but a lot more needs to be done.

Since, internet is the primary pathway for the e-services I mentioned “ India accounts for the third highest number of internet users in the world yet it belongs to the list of 42 least connected countries in the world. This is not a good sign. The government should open computer workshops in large amount in the rural areas where the people of those areas are completely equipped with basic knowledge of computer and the usage of internet for their own benefit. Also, a portal should be opened where people like us who have the basic knowledge can act as their servers/mentors and the people from rural areas as our clients. A supervisor at the workshops can teach them how to log onto such portals. That way we’ll be able contribute as well, by serving their queries. The very motto is ‘Each One Teach One’ .”

Everybody nodded.

“This is a really good idea. I have more to add on the suggestion list. Taking the spotlight from rural areas to the lovely homemakers of our country by which I mean housewives, I believe that more opportunities under ‘Work From Home(WFH)’ should be generated for them. WFH does exist but it isn’t that prevalent. So if this gets under the scope of our government’s campaign it shall gain wide recognition and we’ll be able to make the homemakers self independent.” said Amit.

“That’s a wonderful idea Amit.” said Tania while others agreed too and she added further  “ I suggest e-learning to be brought to the government schools. You know guys! I have always wondered, if our nation can come up with institutes like IITs, NITs, IIMs etc which set a benchmark at the graduation/post graduation level, why is it that the government schools are unable to set the same benchmark at the primary level. People strive by putting their blood and sweat to get a seat in these higher education government institutes and look up to these institutes with utmost respect and prestige whereas they completely loathe the government schools. The disheartening part is that people aren’t wrong at being averse to these schools. The dilapidated system of these govt. schools is to be blamed. This is one place which hasn’t been overhauled in terms of quality. And we all know that no strong foundation can be laid on a weak base.”

I was really impressed by this girl. Though she seemed a bit reserved but whenever she spoke, she always came up with strong arguments.

The discussion had become tense since we were really evaluating it with great interest. We had forgotten that it was for a poster until Raghav reminded “Guys! We have so much to put in this one poster. There is one hopeful part that sees the developments this campaign shall bring. There is another part that tries to suggest ways to extend the reach of these developments to rural areas, homemakers and primary children. If we continue the discussion I am sure we’ll come up with more areas to reach. And then the last part which puts up questions of concern.”

We all definitely had a lot more to discuss but it was time for me to leave.

“Raghav has summed up the discussion through these three parts pretty well. I think now you can use your creativity to get this content in the poster.” I shared my email Id with them and told them to send me the picture of the poster when it gets done.

I wished them all goodbye and left, though my mind was still engrossed wondering how the screenshot of digital India would be.
